I need to buy a good pair of running shoes (cont.)?

I haven't bought any in a really long time. I don't have any foot issues like fallen or high arches. I'm not looking to do long distance running, just about 30 mins a day. Moderate/high price is totally fine. I don't really have a brand preference either.

I need to buy a good pair of running shoes (cont.)?
Each runner is different. I like Brookes Radius. This is how I found out what I like: I went to this specialty running store, where they fitted my feet and body type and running type etc to a shoe. The next year I tried to get a different brand because it "looked cooler". Then I got a stress fracture. After pt and rest, I also went back and bought the updated model of my old shoes (the brooks radius). I have been healthy and speedy ever since! So go to a specialty running store and have them help you out. NOTE: this is not just any old sports store, it's a specialty running store. Or runnersworld.com has some great links, etc about shoes. Go to www.runnersworld.com and click on the shoes %26amp; gear tab. Or go to this link: http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/shoelabs...
Reply:Any of the name brands should work. Of course, a good fit will make the big difference. I have discovered with hiking boots that not all fit my foot well. The right fit, good padding, and good traction, and you will be ready to go. Someone told me the life expectancy of a tennis shoe is about six months. I'm not sure if this is always true.
Reply:I have been running for 8 years now. Though I am biased towards Nike as a brand, I would recommend you to go to a running-specific store, like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC. They can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necssarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. Good luck!!! If you have any more questions, email me (just add @yahoo.com to my user name).
Reply:Also- shop at the end of the day, when your feet are tired... and more sensitive to discomfort. This way if a shoe is a "little uncomfortable" you won't be as likely to still buy it.

Try a couple different brands to see how they fit your foot.

My foot issue is that my toes are long... which changes the proportions of my foot and the position of my arch- it's further back than most people's. It also means that I can't comfortably wear Birkenstocks. So I have to be a little more selective when I look for supportive shoes.

PS- I discovered a trend.... the cuteness of a shoe is inversely proportionate to its comfort.... The shoes I wore yesterday are pretty darn cute.... and oh-so not comfortable.
Reply:30 minutes a day is a lot of running and you should take the time and make the effort to get the best shoes you possibly can. You only have two feet and they have to last the rest of your life. A screw up here could be far more costly than good shoes. Running is tough stuff.

First go to a runner's Running Store (Not Footlocker) if you can find one in your area. The staff there is usually runners and knows the pit falls of bad shoes. Footlocker sells all types of sports shoes and the staff doesn't specialize in one sport for the most part.

Bring an old pair of shoes so they can see your wear pattern and tell what kind of gait you have (supinator vs pronator, heal runner vs. toe for examples). This will help determine hat kind of shoe you need and what you should pay for and what is a waste of money. (For example I'm a toe runner and have no need for rear foot stabilization. So why buy a shoe with rear foot stabilization and waste $$$ and carry useless weight?)

Buy the best shoes you can afford. They will be cheaper than doctors believe me.
Reply:I completely agree with the advice to seek out a running specialty store in your area to be evaluated. I am a certified athletic trainer, who works at a local high school, but also at a running specialty store, so I have seen many scenarios of athletes beginning a running program, only to end up with overuse injuries from not being properly fitted for their running shoes.

Customers ask me all the time, "What is the best running shoe you have?" I can never answer this question, because what I do is help you find the best shoe for YOUR FOOT. This is the important part; there are lots of great brands out there; Asics, Saucony, Adidas, Brooks, etc., but they are all constructed differently, and may not be the right shoe for you as an individual.

If you would like to read more about some of the specific things I look for in an evaluation, you can read my article (link is below) on how to choose running shoes. Good luck!!
