Why are the laces on running shoes twice the length they need to be?

So the user has choices as to how they like to lace them. There are many ways to lace a shoe and runners have specific lace patterns that don't cause any friction on the foot. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY FOOTFALLS ARE IN A 6 MILE RUN??





So any trick to reduce friction is welcome. Still, there are people who default to the traditional criss-cross automatically.

Reply:In case the laces break. Normally, you would not be carrying extra laces with you. You can simply tie the broken ends together and you are good to go.

Reply:Because you are tying them incorrectly. If you tie them in a bow and double knot them you will not have any left over.
