Last year I wanted to start jogging so I started out slowly, jogging a quarter of a mile then walking the rest with plans to increase slowly. I made it for about three days and then developed a terrible pain below my left knee that I found out was bursitis. My doctor asked what brand of shoe I was using so I told him New Balance. He said they weren't good shoes and I should get something else but wouldn't suggest any other brands. I am ready to start trying again but don't know what brand is good. I can't afford to buy pair after pair to test them out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
What is a good brand of running shoes?
Maybe your doctor's not a runner. It is not really on the brand, it is all about your wear pattern. You should find a pair of shoes that's compatible with your biological built. Here's a pretty comprehensive website link that may answer some of your questions.

Reply:New Balance is a good shoe but many brands are good and there are tons of them. Go to an Athlete's Foot and get your foot print done. It'll show you where your arch is and how high it is. The width of your foot, etc... Then they will match your print with the shoe that is best for your foot. Best of luck!
Reply:reebok or new balance
Reply:Brooks are amazing, everyone loves them, but asics and nikes are pretty good too.
Reply:I'd go for asics. I have very bad problems with my knees/ankles from years of netball and very bad posture. I have a paid of Asics Gel Kyanos, and although they are quite expensive ($230) they do wonders for me. They limit my ankle rolling in when running and are very cushioney. (I shouldn't really admit this but....) I have had the same pair for about 10 months now.
Reply:Acsics and Nikes. There is a brand called Pearl Izumi. But I havent tried them. They look good though.
Reply:i would really suggest addidas or nike. (particularlly nike shocks). aslo keep in mind that u should buy shoes that are designed for running. make sure that you are not going to buy walking shoes. most stores have sectins for running shoes but u should always ask somebody who works at the store about the shoes u are interested in. they usually are very helpful.
i also would suggest that u go to dikcs sporting goods to buy the shoes. they have an indoor track that people use to test thier shoes. if u do this make sure that they fit properly, feel comfortable, and are designed for running
hope i helped :)
Reply:It is not so much the brand of shoe that is important, but instead the type of shoe that would be best for your particular foot and stride. New Balance, Brooks, Saucony, Asics, Nike, Adidas and more all make good running shoes, but they have different models that are built different ways for people who need more stability, may pronate, supinate, have flat feet, are heavier etc. Go to a specialty running store and have them look at your foot or stride and they will set you up with the correct model.
