How do I choose running shoes?

I want to start running everyday to loose weight, what should I look for in sneakers?

How do I choose running shoes?
Go to a real athletic shoe store and have someone who knows what they are doing fit you properly. Take the socks you plan to wear while running. Try on many, many pairs and pick one that feels perfect, not close enough. Do not be swayed by a logo or a style. Buy real running shoes.

I played pro football in the early '70s and wore the shoes the team gave me. Now there are very few shoes I can wear to walk around the block without pain.

You also want to do some resistance training (weights, Nautilus, etc.). This builds muscle and muscle burns more fuel (fat). Cardio about 60%, resistance 40%. Have someone knowledgeable get you started.
Reply:any thing you feel comfortable. try out adidas joggers
Reply:Definitely go to a decent running store, they should do some type of test to analyze your gait, this can be done many ways. The could look at your feet asking to do a range of movements, watch you run a little etc. there are more technological ways such as using video cameras and computers as well. They should also discuss with you what surfaces you plan to run on and how far you plan to run in each session.

Having done this they should bring out a wide range of shoes for you to try, each will be slightly different as different manufacturers and different ranges from each manufactorer will be built with different points emphasized. You should be given the opportunity to run in every pair, if they don't give you this opportunity get up and go to another store.

You should then pick out a couple of favourite shoes and try these back to back running and walking round etc. and then make up your mind - try not to let cost be the ruling factor, although obviously thats not always possible in the real world, I prefer currently £60 brooks over £110 assics road shoe, but needed a £100 trail shoe to feel comfortable. Once you're happy with your choice you buy it.

Around every 500 miles your shoes will start to need replacing, right down your shoes total mileage every time you run, some online run logs have features to do this for you, and after about 350 miles start looking for signs of wear, reduced cushioning etc.

I paid the price for not changing my running shoes often enough, I wanted to go into an ultra with the shoes I trained in and loved, I knew they were nearing the end of their life but was sure I could get the extra miles out of them. Long story short they failed to do what you would hope from a good running shoe in cushioning stability etc. as this was offroad it was more important for a could stable ride which I didn't get, strained ligament, stress fracture and pulled calf all followed before I called it a day, all in one leg which shoe had detteriated the most. A lot of that injury can be put down to my stupidity through the race, but had I changed the shoes a month earlier when I knew the needed it I wouldn't have had a problem.

Also although you didn't ask for advice I will quickly say if you are just starting running going into an everday schedule is probably not good, start doing every other day at first and then build up to doing everyday. At least one rest day a week is needed, most people tend to two.
