What are some good running shoes?

I'm trying to start running to lose some weight. I'm a bit heavier, so I need all the cushion I can get.

Toolgirl, lots of companies make good running shoes. If you go to a store dedicated to runners and walkers, you're more likely to get a knowledgeable sales person who knows which shoes are cushiony and can help you get a true fit. Some brands will fit you great, others not so well.





FWIW, I find the Saucony Shadow and Shadow II the most cushiony. I must have four pairs of them kicking around, in various stages of wear from almost- new to good-for-mowing.

Reply:The best shoes are the ones that fit YOU best. There are many brands that are good. Nike, Assics, Saucony, New Balance, Mizuno, Brooks, etc...

Reply:Maryn is correct. You ned to find a store that specializes in running and runners. They will be able to analyze your stride and determine what shoes are best for you in terms of what kind of support you need.





Going by someone else's recommendation is not the best way to choose a running shoe. Their shoe may be great for them, but it could be completely inappropriate for you.

If your running shoes arn't comfortable, try gel insoles inside.
Reply:My mother runs a lot and says asics runners are the best, esp if you run on the road.
Reply:If you tend to overpronate whichis running on the insides of your feet you want shoes that have support on the inside of your foot. If you look at the shoe and it has big gap on the inside you dont want it. Get shoes that have support and cushion wont be much of a problem because the weight on your feet will be distributed. And the post above is good go to a good running store with people who know what they re talking about not just a normal sporting goods store.
