Why do some running shoes contain air in the heels?

Air is primarily used by Nike. The main goal is to cushion the foot.

Other companies will offer different cushioning technologies.

Adidas: "Adiprene" - a soft rubber that absorbs impact

New Balance: "Abzorb" - same deal as adidas just a different name

Asiscs: Gel - a bladder filled with Gel

Brooks: "HydroFlow" - channel system filled with a type of liquid

Mizuno: "Wave Plate" - a piece of plastic that looks like a wave and compresses on impact.

All different cushioning systems offer a different feel. If you find the air too soft try Asics or Brooks.

Reply:its supposed to create comfort but its just a design. Firstly if you are looking for shoes you need to know if you pronate or not. if you pronate then you need stabalizing shoes if not then get normal shoes that are comfortable
