Asics work best for me, but everybody is different. If I were you I would go to road runner sport to ask them about shoes. They will look at how you walk and what you would prefer. They will ask you if you need them for walking of running plus you will be able to return them if they do not work for you!

However as others have said you should get properly fitted for size, footstrike etc...

I also recommend you visit the shoe store for fitting shortly after running as well.

Reply:I am not heavy, but use high end ASICS. Good cushioning from heel to toe, which few other shoes have.

When I first got a pair of these, it felt like firm cushion rails the length of my feet. Best $110 I ever spent on shoes. Lasted 5 years, too.
Reply:Go to a running store and get fitted, they'll choose you the best possible shoe based on how your foot strikes the ground and your weight.

I run in Asics and they're fantastic. I also liked a pair of Mizunos I owned.

If you can afford to get nice shoes from a running shop you'll see that they don't really carry (much) Nike. Nike's more of a fashion shoe these days and I'd stay away from them.

If you really are interested go into a good running store, and see if they can analyse your style, and from that hopefully they should be able to offer you a running shoe that would suit you. In my opinion Nike or Asics are the most popular, and for the person above who says Nike arent stocked much anymore and that they are a fashion item, im sorry but you are very wrong sir.

Best bet, pick up one one of the Running magazine's shoe issues to get some guidance. Talk to a running store (not a sports store or a shoe store) if there is one in your area and get some advice. Realize that you may take you a couple of tries to find what really works for you. I have personally had good luck with New Balance and have a couple pairs of Saucony shoes that worked well. I have also had a few pairs of very expensive very popular brands that have inflicted a great deal of pain, so don't think that more expensive is better. Once you find what works for you, stick with it (and look for it on sale!)

Gel is actually best for vibration dampening or side to side force reduction. However, when running or walking most of the force is vertical (up or down). Down from gravity or up from the hard surface of the ground. Therefore, you are better off with an insole made out more maximum shock absorbing cushioning materials. Reply:yes, gel insoles would be good for your feet and your performance. just be sure to take the original sole out of your shoe and replace it with your new insert. if you need even more cushioning, simply invest in shoes that offer a lot of cushioning to begin with. may i suggest the Asics Gel Platinum or the Nike Air Pegasus-both offer tons of cushioning and support for your needs.

My hubby had the same problem. I took one of his socks and poured about a cup of baking soda into it, then tied the top of the sock up so it wouldn't spill out. I did this with two socks and put one in each of his shoes along with a dryer sheet. In a matter of hours the odor was gone and his shoes smelled like snuggle. I do it every night now when he takes his shoes. off.

Spray them with Lysol and leave them overnight on top of a heating vent. That's what I do.

Keeping them super dry will kill the germs. Germs need moisture to live and shoes are a good place for that.

Also you got to treat his feet too. You need the stuff that "cures athletes foot". If it doesn't say that than it won't work. Trust me I know!

the 7's are just as good as the 6's, except they're like 40 bucks more. so it just depends on whether or not it's on sale.

Reply:I usually run in New Balance because they make great motion control shoes and they have every size and width. I have also had some sucess with Adidas, Reebok and Saucony. I loved Nike when I was in high school and college, but they seem to add fancy looking things (like shox,) to their shoes and then charge too much and I would still buy them, but I cannot find a comfortable pair. A lot of people swear by Asics and they are probably good for most people, but every time I wore a pair of them in a marathon, I got blood blisters and lost toenails. The toe box is too narrow for my long second toes. If you do choose Asics, you should know that they are usually sized too small, so try on several sizes before buying them.

My foot pronates also and my advice is jsut to get a shoe that has a higher arch to give support to your foot. It should relieve the pain in your foot. I had old running shoes and when i got new shoes with an arch that supportss my pronating foot bettter the pain in my foot went away
Reply:Go to a running specialty store (not a general sporting goods store) and explain your exact problem, the workers tend to be quite knowledgable. Pain in the toes could mean you need to trim your nails, or your shoe is too small (your foot swells while running) or maybe your foot is slipping in your shoe and mashing your toes to the front of the shoe or it could be something else.

Issued. They want everyone to be the same and have one uniformed look!

Pretty much everything everything you need will be issued to you. In some cases, however, it's not a "free issue." Only actual uniform items are issued for free. Non-uniform items, such as notebooks, pens, flashlights, etc., are not. A couple of days after arrival, you'll be issued an official basic training "debit card." This card has about $250 worth of your first paycheck deposited in a special finance account. When you need to purchase something that is not issued free (such as the running shoes, soap, shampoo, haircuts, laundery costs, etc.), you'll use this card.

The Air Force used to allow you to bring your own running shoes and wear them during basic training PT, this policy has recently changed. Recruits are now required to wear the "issue" standard, New Balance, plain white running shoes. Recruits may only wear their $200 "Nikes" if they have a medical waiver from the base medical clinic.

Out of our entire company, I think like 3 of us were allowed to keep their tennis shoes for jogging/running. The rest had to buy new shoes with the funds given to them at the beginning of BCT.

Those tennis shoes were nice. I haven't found running shoes like those in the civilian marketplace. Shoe stores ask me where the heck I got them. I nurse them along.

When I joined the Army, I lucked out - I have these big, oddly shaped feet and getting footwear issued to me that actually fit well involves having them and insoles specially ordered. When none of the grotty issued running shoes fit me, I was permitted to wear my comfortable Nikes.

I think the most comfortable I've ever worn are the Nike Free. However, this does not mean they are the best to wear running. My regular running shoe is Mizuno Wave Inspire and I wear the Nike Frees mostly for walking.

That depends on your feet, your style of running, and so forth. Go to a good, high-end athletic shoe store, and ask them to show you some different shoes. Take your old shoes with you - that can show the salesperson some information about how your shoes wear, and give them an idea of what you need. For example, I wear out my shoes on the outside edges faster than the inside edge, because my feet roll to the outside more. So my current gym shoes have harder material along the outside.

You'll pay more for these shoes than you will by getting them at K-mart, but they will support your feet better, and protect them more, and you'll be happier with them.
Reply:It depends on your foot. High insteps and high arches are my biggest challenge. I have to go the the sports store and try them on. Pronation and supination are major considerations that any running shoe salesman should know about.

I didn't know the reason my lower leg muscles would burn was due to my high arches. I wasn't wearing any arch supports in my shoes. Now I know the best shoes for me are the ones that address my foot structure.

I do prefer the lightest weight shoes though.

Can you return them to get a pair that will fit you? If not, maybe try streching them out by stuffing some paper towels and see if that helps. But next time, make sure your shoes fit before you buy them Having too tight shoes can cause you to have foot problems
Reply:real old school . it works 100% of time . jam toes tight newspaper , place deep freeze at least 12 hours. discard newspapers stuff with frsh paper ready when dry . sounds stupid but it still is the easiest way , cheaper than wood shoe trees , or shoemaker

Reply:If you bought your shoes from a reputable running store, you should be able to exchange them. Your feet "grow" when you run due to the increased circulation. If you have a Fleet Feet or Dick Pond running store by you try buying your next pair of shoes there. The sales people know what they're doing....most of the time.

I can't possibly overstate this fact, You need a shoe built for you, you can get the most amazing shoes for 100 dollars but it may not work for you, what I'm talking about it pronation. its the lateral movement of your ankle on impact and you can't see it by yourself you need someone to see what part of your heal hits the ground first, the more inside hits the worse you pronate, also any good shoe store should let you try on your shoes and run in them and they should watch and help you pick out how bad your feet pronate, if you dont know what i'm talking about go to another store, as for shoes, go get ones that fit your pronation level, any top brand is good, i've run in asics my whole life but now have a pair of saucony's, lots of my friends use mizunos, brooks are almost as good addidas are ok never run in a nike, thats just not a good idea, best of luck

I have been running for 8 years now. Though I am biased towards Nike as a brand, I would recommend you to go to a running-specific store, like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC. They can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necessarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. But after you get the correct shoes or even if you haven't, I would go to any major athletics store and ask the sales associates because they are getting paid to know the products they are selling. To be honest, if you're looking for 'good' quality, brand name running shoes, your not going to find them for $40 or under. Most Asics are at least $80+, not sure about the other brands.

It's hard to know how to advise you without understanding what the problem is with the heel. If it has become detached from the rest of the shoe, so that it is peeling off, that's a really easy repair. It's just glued, so any shoe repair shop can fix that.

But if you have worn down the heel, so that you would need to have it rebuilt, it's not worth it. You can do this for dress shoes, of course, but modern athletic shoes are built with a lot of high-tech materials *inside* the shoe. There are special shock-absorbing layers that are beneath the rubber part you see. They do a great job, but they wear out faster than the sole and heel of the shoe itself. As a result, by the time the rubber is worn down, the internal layers are long gone, and they are not giving you any more protection.

At that point, the shoe is really no good for runing any more. If they still look okay, you can wear them around the house, but you should not run in them, because you are risking damage to your feet. And there is no way to replace that interior material, or, if you could, it would cost a lot more than buying new shoes.

As I said, if I could see the shoes I could give you more specific advice, but I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Personally I do well with New Balance, but like so many have said; it all depends on your foot. At the shoe store, if the employees assist their customers, so that could be of help. But watch out, people tend to get too dependent on their shoes and if you buy new shoes too often, your foot wont get much stronger. That is why you shouldn't try to get the most high-tech expensive model out there. Some people get injuries because their foot or ankle is weak and end up running in classier shoes and never really heal. Nike has a good shoe [in which I forget the name] that simulated the freedom of running barefoot with the proper support at the same time. I would suggest those. Also do a few strides after your workout barefoot in the grass.

Reply:Ok well im sorry to go against the common idea but ive heard that Nike are good but that they have little to no support in them for your foot and your arch. The best shoe for long distance, i would have to say, would be Brooks because they are very light weight, they are one of the best supporting running shoes and they feel great on the bottom of your foot due to the gel, silicon, and water undersides. They are a bit more expensive then most but the product is much better for your foot. Also get some insoles that fit the curve of your fot so you dont roll in or out too much.

Personally, I think any shoe made by Asics is worthy for the gods, but you should NEVER EVER BUY SHOES ONLINE. You should only buy shoes online, if you have already bought a pair of shoes at a store, you know they fit you and don;t give you any problems, and you have been running in them for a while, and you need new ones and you want thesame exact model. With that exception, you shold always go to a runnign store to buy shoes. At a good running store,expect the people to look at your foot, examine your stride, and run around for a while. Let them choose the shoe for you. They know more than you!
Reply:Contrary to the posts above me Asics are in fact not the best running shoes to go with. I'd suggest Brooks running shoes. They will last 30% longer than any other brand out there and the cushioning technology which is called HydroflowST will not let you down. A PU bag filled with liqud silicone that will not pop, freeze, melt, or change in any way. The new MoGo midsoles are even better than their previous midsoles.

If you overpronate the I'd suggest the Trance 6 or 7. They can be found online at www.finishline.com

If you do not overpronate then a different shoe would be better. If you have a local running store I'd suggest going in there and have them fit you for the perfect pair of shoes. If you take off your shoes and socks and they look at you funny.......put your shoes back on and walk out cuz you're in the wrong place. Also the teenage kid with acne at your local Footlocker is not a reputable source for sneaker knowledge. Trust me they don't know anything. If you need anymore help just let me know.

BTW - you get what you pay for. Look at the original price as a small guide. If they didn't cost near or over $100 you prob won't want to be running long distance in them. Most great running shoes will cost about $120-$150

Also do not buy into the gimmicks of a Nike shox or Adidas A3 sytems. They are just a for your "wannabe" runners. All I wear is Jordans %26amp; Nikes for every other kind of shoe but for serious running you want to go with a technical shoe, not a gimmick.

My whole family owns Brooks. I am also Brooks SoleTech Certified so you best believe I'm legit and up on my sneaker knowledge. I know more about shoes than I could even begin to tell you guys on here cuz it would just blow your mind and you would have no idea as to what I'm talking about. It totally depends on your feet and what kind of running you're doing. I do long distance so any problem in the shoe will become exagerrated over the miles. Go to a store that specializes in running and let them look at your feet. They should watch you walk and preferably see you run to see how your feet work. then they can recommend the best show. (I've had Nikes, Saucony, Asics and now Brooks.)

I really like running in Asics, so do many other people. They are comfortable and lightweight, and can be cheap. Mine were about $60, $65 ish.

For meets, you might want to get spikes. I like wearing spikes at meets, makes me feel faster. However Asics are great for meets too, it's a pretty good shoe. You'll get a lot of miles out of them.

Reply:Yes, I did it three months back. Mine were kind of faded yellow and i applied black shoe polish (cherry brand). I applied a very think layer of polish and did it twice, once at night and once in next morning. Next, left it to dry for 12 hours and now it just looks like any other black shoes. No one could tell the difference and i am so happy because with my light coloured shoes, i had to keep them washing or clearning with every new blotch on it.

Reply:Every runner has a different "perfect" shoe that fits their running environment, frequency and style. The important thing is to not limit yourself to a brand, but find the right shoe. I have included a website that is a good starting place to finding shoes that will work.

That being said, I LOVE Asics. I ran with Nike for a while and assumed that I naturally always had shin splints if I ran for long periods of time. My friend helped my find a shoe at a specialty running shoe store. I had to consider my arch, my running terrain, etc. I ended up with the Asics Gel Kayano; I never had shin splints with this shoe. I ran eight miles and I never had any "shoe problems." They rock.

it all depends on your arch. so ask someone in a store to pick out shoes that would fit your arch, and they'll probably bring you different pairs for you to try out.

It depends on how your feet move when you run. If you tend to run on the outer sides of your feet, you pronate. If you tend to run onthe insides of your feet, you under-pronate. You are supposed to run on the middle of your feet.

Different makes of shoes help based on whether you pronate or over pronate. For me, Asics work the best. Go to a running specialty store, let them watch you run, look at the wear patterns of your current shoes,and fit you with shoes that are right for you.

Reply:Everyone will have a different opinion. Just get a good quality pair, not something off the shelf from Wal-Mart or Payless. Make sure they fit you properly and are comfortable. A good quality pair won't require any "break in" time. You should be able to put them on and go do your typical workout without any discomfort or blistering like cheap shoes can cause.

I like Nike myself, but would definitely purchase another brand if I tried them and they fit well and felt good. Make sure there's plenty of cushion to protect your legs and back from the impact of running.

If you don't, I'd recommend checking out some info from runner's websites as you will not get accurate feedback from the SA sales guy. If you have any time to go to a specialty running store, try them,too.
Reply:if i were you, i would not go to sports authority. i'd go to a specialty running shop. at sports authority, the employees are not trained to evaluate your gait and they will not know which show is right for you. AT a specialty store, the employees are very knowledgeable, and given your activity level, and an examination of your gait will be able to tell you which type of shoe is correct for you. This will greatly reduce your risk of injury, and you'll be glad you went to an expert because you may realize that you've been running in the wrong shoes forever!

I run a few marathons per year. As you can imagine, I go through a lot of running shoes. Sometimes, I even get shoes for free. And yet I have never had more than two pairs of running shoes that I actively wore, and I think this is true for most people.

Every runner is different, and it really does not matter how many pairs you have, as long as you have one good one for the day that you're running. Some people recommend switching between two pairs of shoes so that you don't get used to running a single pair of shoes, thereby risking a overuse injury. Personally, I think that this is a propaganda started by shoe companies to sell shoes. By just running on different courses, you work different leg muscles.

Others have a pair of training shoes and race shoes. The training shoes are heavier, and they are used for your training runs. The race shoes are lighter performance shoes for your races. The idea is that when you train in heavier shoes, on race day when you wear the lighter shoes, you will be able to run faster. I tried this before, but I did not see a dramatic difference, and I rarely hear from anyone that this strategy works wonders.

In the end, the best strategy I settled upon is the following. I have a new pair of shoes and an older pair of shoes. When my new pair of shoes come close to retirement, it becomes my older pair of shoes and I get a new pair. My older shoes get donated to a charity at a local running store. By always having two pairs of shoes, I always ensure that if one pair becomes "un-runnable" (e.g., it becomes wet or dirty), then I can always wear the other ones.

I see no reason to have any more, and I have yet to hear a good reason for needing any more.

The 3 main component of running shoes are stability, cushioning and arch support.

What I did is go to a top shelf running shoe shop like a "Foot Locker" where they sell shoes. tell the salesman what your specific needs are and he should prescribe a shoe thats best for your feet and running style.

--you dont buy the shoes there - too expensive, you just get your education there. I sugeest you go to 2 stores to make sure the salesman isnt trying to sell you their special of the week. Then go to the internet and search for the best price.

Reply:I've been searching for some myself the past few weeks and everyone I've talked to has said assics or brooks. It really depends on how much running you do and what you are comfortable in and how much you are willing to spend I think. You have to weigh up wether it is cheaper to buy those that take longer to wear out for a higher price or those that wear out quicker for a cheaper price and you have to consider the kind of support you need for the type of running you are doing.

You know that campaign "own your C" about "owning your choice?" It's the same thing with running shoes. No advertisement or advice is best for you. What's the best running shoe for you is not the best running shoe for someone else. Go to a real running store (Runner's Roost, Fleet Feet, etc) and tell them about yourself: What kind of running are you doing? Track? Cross Country? Marathon? Trail Running?

Then let them look at your feet. Many stores will even have you run on a treadmill and even video it for slow motion analysis ...

It all helps them put you in the right shoe for you. I have friends who run like jackrabbits and wear very light, narrow shoes for short distance races. I have big wide feet and run 50- and 100-mile races, I wear big, wide shoes with extra protection, added weight and a lot of gripping tread.

It's all different. No shoe is "best" except the one that's best for you.

Since different styles of running demand different styles of shoes...

The best thing you can do is go down a Running Lab. In fact there's a place by that name; "Running Lab."

I've personally used the Running Lab, along with my spouse and many others, they are FANTASTIC! And they have all kinds of different Brands of shoes. From Nike to New Balance. =)

They will have you take off your shoes, watch you walk, and even take an imprint of your foot. After doing so, they will spend a few minutes analyzing everything. They will ask you a few questions about your running style and your level of running.

Once they have finished they will direct you to a wall of shoes, that has ALL different brands of shoes on it and say something like; "These are what we recommend for you based on your foot's shape, the way you run, where your foot actually impacts the ground and the width of slimness of your feet.

After they show you the selection, try a few pairs on, take them for a "test run" around the block and once you've found a pair that you like, then get them.

They are GREAT! My spouse has ran a marathon and we are training once again for another one coming up in May. We always go to the running lab. Oh...and the shoes, are sold at a great price too.

Hope this helps...oh, the shoes that I picked out ended up being about $80 or so.

i would highly suggest you don't actually go out and buy the shoes without her. i work at a running store and it is essential to find out if the person i'm fitting needs a stability shoe or not, the wrong shoe can lead to injury. just tell her you will take her to a running store to get fitted. the people there should know what to do. oh and don't go to a dick's or a modell's they don't know anything about running

Reply:Well I would like to ask is she an avid runner or just a so-so runner? There are several types of Asics running shoes. When I did run more I had to buy special runing shoes that compensated for the fact I tend to wear out the outer-back side of the sole. So you may want to consider the shape of her foot as well. Nothing beats buying a great pair of running shoes. Good luck.
Reply:Asics, and every other running shoe producer, makes tons of different shoes depending upon both the type of running, and much more specifically, the feet going in the shoe. Your daughter has to go to the store to take a short test jog (probably in several different shoes for comparison) before buying. Take her to a specialty store, not a department store. A specialty store will have a much wider selection and staff trained specifically in running.

Make a card and put a picture of running shoes on it with a note that you'll take her to get a pair of new shoes. Also, try to be open to other brands. Asics are very good, but maybe someone else makes a better shoe for her foot and gait.

Your walking stride is usually a little different than your running stride. By wearing your running shoes as your normal shoes, you are incraesing the wear in them.

However, once you have worn them out and no longer run in them, go ahead and use them as everyday shoes. Walking doesn't put much stress on your feet, so that is ok.

I never understood why people want to do this. They are your running shoes for a reason.

Reply:i wouldnt. you can, but they will wear out faster, get dirty etc. depends how serious of a runner you are. for me, my running shoes are something special. i only wear them to run. sort of a mental thing. when i put them on, my mind changes over to running and thats it. if youre strapped for cash, and cant afford running shoes you can, but they wont last as long. and if you like the way they look, just get a second pair to wear around and keep your other pair for running.

After the shoes are not used for running then I wear them for everyday use.

However, you should not wear the shoes you are running in for everyday use, and then train in them later in the day.

There are a limited amount of miles on a pair of shoes and you are shortening their lifetime by walking around in them.

You need to go to a store that specializes in running (not just a general sports store). They will watch you walk and see how your foot moves and recommend a number of different shoes. You then try all those shoes on to see which feels the most comfortable as you walk/jog throughout the store. Nobody can recommend their running shoe to you, because everybody moves differently. It's amazing the difference getting fitted for shoes will make!

New Balance. This is what the Marine Corps issues to recruits at Paris Island. They have had more than a few overweight recruits come through. Thats what they issued me in 1992, and I still run in new balance shoes to this day. Never had a problem with their shoes wearing out, or any foot pain associated with running in these shoes. Find a store that specializes in running. One that has a treadmill onsite so they can analyze your gait and feet.

If your structure is good the less support you need, however the feet are dynamic structures that require use to keep them strong and getting shoes with too much support takes away the job of the various components of the feet and much like walking with crutches, will weaken the now unused muscles.

You have to use it or loose it. And you have to use it optimally. Overuse and misuse will eventually lead to injury. Any structural imbalances in the body will be magnified by 10 when you run. Get checked out by a sports/running Dr.

Get massage from a sports massage therapist. They can asses your body for imbalances and refer you if needed to another qualified professional.

Reply:For years I bought shoes at the old Gart Brothers (now Sports Authority). My last pair convinced me their people don't know a lick about fitting shoes. They felt fine in the store but the first 10K -- the toe box was seamed and wasn't wide enough -- I ended up with a great looking black toe. Still growing back the nail.

Anyway, the best shoe I've ever had was fitted by a running expert. Since I run 10K everyday, I had to bite the bullet and spend the money for my feet's sake. I trotted up and down in front of that shop at least a 15 times in 15 different shoes before the expert was able to fit my stride and pronation. Believe me, I'm a convert, these are the best shoes I've ever had (Asics IGS GT-2120 Gels).

In a nutshell, get fitted by an expert. It's difficult to recommend a shoe, I mean 15 pairs before both the expert and I were satisfied. Be prepared to pay at least $100.

Reply:Like many have already indicated you need to go to a local Speciaty running store (not a chain like Dick's or Sports Authority) or heaven forbid places like Famous Footwear or discount shoe stores! A running shoe needs to fit based upon the type of runner you are or want to be, foot type, weight etc.. Lasty, do not be convinced to buy a cheap shoe unless it's discounted due to a newer model being available. The overall best shoes are: Ascis, Brooks, Mizuno and Saucony. Nike makes a lot of models also, but stay away from those over $100; as normally they're overpriced and are not good options for most newer runners!

The very first thing you do is go to a specialty running store for shoes. They will analyze your form and style and recommend a pair of shoes for you.

Running shoes depend on the following:

The surface you will be running on (concrete, terrain, treadmill, track);

your pronation (very important when choosing running sneakers!);

and a few other things that escape me right now.

I have 3 pairs of sneakers I use for running:

Reebok DMX for street running (excellent cushion)

Saucony for beach and trail running (excellent stability)

Nike Air Trainers for the treadmill (they are cute)

Reply:You should buy new ones I don't get new ones as often as I should, but shoes lose thier bounce and they are not as effective. I take my old running shoes and wear them to walk in--walking does not create as much pressure on the joints.

You should replace your shoes frequently.

I am a passionate fan of Adidas. They make a quality shoe for a decent price. Their basic running or trail running shoes average about $50-$60 and last forever. My personal favorite is the Response trail shoe.

P.S. I recently cheated with a new pair of New Balance. I have to admit, while Adidas is still my first love, New Balance provides excellent support that I didn't even realize was missing. It even helped reduce pain in my bad knee. --Just food for thought.

Also I find that Nike is not true to size and tends to wear out quickly.

Reply:Well i am a marine and i run approx. a minimum of 8 miles a day and have tried many different brands of running shoe. The shoe i have found to be the best, at least for myself is called the Nike Free. It is a shoe actually designed with barefoot runners in mind. It is a really light shoe and after changing from a new balance to this shoe my feet felt so light. It was the equivelant of wearing ankle weights everytime i ran then removing them. It comes with 2 sets of insoles one more designed for the barefoot runner then another for a runner who likes more padding and even the extra padding insole doesn't make the shoe way as much as a normal running shoe. Well hope i was some help.

Since there are many different kinds of foot-strike patterns, a good store will have someone who watches you run and tells you if you're a pronator (normal), supinator (rigid feet), or overpronator (floppy feet). I think you would be better off not worrying about the brand. The best shoes are going to be the ones that fit you best and Nike may not be that brand. You don't have to spend $100 to get good running shoes. The high priced shoes are usually the newest arrivals at the store. You can good shoes for $60 to $80.

Check out a running shoe store and get fitted. They will examine your foot and the way your run/walk and recommend the right type of shoes for you. If you can test them out in the store, go for it. Last time I was in the store I tried on 6 different brands and ran on the treadmill with each brand. I tried on a pair of Nikes Air Zoom Vomeros and they were way too squishy. All of the Nike shoes that have a 'gimmick' to go along with them (like the Shox/Air 360/etc.) are usually lousy running shoes (they are WAY too heavy and the air bubble/shox thing malfunction after little use). Nike's best running shoes are the ones without all the flashy bells and whistles (most people like the Air Pegasus or other Bowerman Series models).

I rock the Nike Zoom Miler trainers. They are extremely lightweight, well-cushioned, and durable. You could try Asics/New Balance models, but they seem to solely make shoes for 'road runners' that are past their prime.
Reply:I've had two pairs of the nike shox. The first pair I purchased, and the second pair was a gift. If you are a serious runner, I would steer clear. I run 5-7 miles a day, and they are not running shoes. I am a firm believer in Asics, I can put a new pair on, go run and my feet feel great. Reply:Not worth a fraction...I recently purchased a pair and promptly took them back after sporting them around the house for the weekend.

They give very little support (I was doing a lot of housework and could not imagine trying to take them on a run). They're just flashy, colorful shoes for people who have a neutral foot (those who don't over- or underpronate) and don't plan on doing much in them.

If you're a serious runner or even mildly serious, look elsewhere.

I have many times, just make sure you take the laces out so they don't get caught up in your washer.

Don't dry them in the dryer either, the rubber will melt if you aren't careful.

I used cold water, Oxyclean to make them whiter and Woolite so it was a bit gentler than regular detergent.

To dry them I just pulled the tongue of the shoe out and let them sit for three days to dry.

If you can take out the liner on the inside without tearing it (some of my shoes have removable ones some don't) do take them out. Helps with the dry time and keeps the liner from falling out while you are washing them and possibly being damaged.

I usually just hand wash the liners with Woolite and let air dry.

Reply:It ususally depends on what the shoe is made of. Don't use bleach. It might make the shoe turn yellow or at leat the stitches might turn yellow and/or your shoes will fall apart faster. I use either Formula 409 or laundry detergent (I use Gain) with warm water. I use a toothbrush to get into the grooves and it helps to get the dirt out of the stitches. Detergent is good to get the stitches clean. Don't get the shoes too wet because it will take a while for them to dry. Also, be careful of logos if they are sewn into the shoe, they might bleed. I wash around the logo sometimes, but usually detergent won't do bad things to it....after all, you use it on your clothes. Hope this helps/works. :)
Reply:I wash mine in the washing machine with cascade dishwashing detergent. You can also put them in the washingmachine if you don't want to put cascade in your washingmachine. It helps get your shoes really white and keeps them white for awhile. I pull my shoelaces out and tie them together in a knot so I can find them easier and so the tongue on the shoes will have a chance to get cleaned. I don't ever put mine in the dryer, but I will put them in a window to dry, or in front of a fan.

When I am out of cascade then I have used shout and sprayed them down before I put them in the washingmachine!

Reply:Running shoes are just like bras. If you take care of them they last a long time. It's OK to wash them in a washer, but don't use bleach. The chlorine will cause the rubber to break down faster. Never, never put them in the dryer. Open the laces and pull the tongues out, then let them dry in the sun or in front of your heat register(in winter) Use powder to help absorb odor, so you won't need to wash them as often.

For me, running shoes are more comfortable. Now if you live out West, which I did, when I lived in El Paso and San Angelo, Texas, where there are Rattlesnakes, I recommend you wear the cowboy boots. :o) The problem, for me, with cowboy boots, is that I hate to wear socks and it is hard to wear socks when you have cowboy boots on. When you go without socks with the boots, your heels start to hurt really quickly. Also, whenever I wear the cowboy boots, my feet feel heavy, therefore, I prefer running shoes. The cowboys boots look kind of sexy if you have nice jeans out and you are going for a sexy look, though. :o)

i used to sell running shoes, Asics are the most popular, and I have to say they are my preference. Asics Gel is othe comfort in all Asics shoes. If you have a falling arch you will want to purchase the 2110 Asics, or the Kayano, if you tend to walk on your out sides of your feet(supanating), you will want to try on the Cumulus or the Nimbus. I have falling arches but do enjoy the Nimbus, it is all cushion. These are all serious running shoes. Remember replacing your running shoes as well as you socks need to be purchased at the same time, and running shoes run out of their support/cushion after anywhere from 3-6 months, don't try to extend them too far. it will only cause you pain.

Usually those who work there are runners themselves so it really helps if you don't know much about how you run (pronate, supinate, etc.) and so on. They can really help you in the right direction and they have a great selection.

The best running shoes are the ones you feel most comfortable in. Fit is everything when it comes to shoes. Try going to a running store instead of the generic Foot Lockers, Dick's of the world so the people there know what they're talking about. Also most running stores will have a treadmill in the store for you to try out the new shoes. As for the difference between outdoor and treadmill it doesn't matter.

You should not shop for shoes by the brand, you should shop for how they feel when you run. Most running stores will let you run around the store to test them out.

Reply:my favorites have always been new balance. they have a deeper heal box than many others, and a higher arch. every runner will feel different in different shoes. nikes are very popular, to me the ones i have tried have been too narrow and the heal box is too shallow and they have less arch. like i said, you may have to try different brands until you find what works best for you.

I have been running for 8 years now. Though I am biased towards Nike as a brand, I would recommend you to go to a running-specific store, like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC. They can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necessarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. But after you get the correct shoes or even if you haven't, I would go to any major athletics store and ask the sales associates because they are getting paid to know the products they are selling. Reply:when it comes to regular running shoes, Nike has fallen off. Adidas hasn't had alot of great makes in a while either.

And saucony puts unecessary bulk on some of its shoes.

Mizuno has a great selection of running shoes, and so does Asics.

Brooks are also good.I didnt like them at first, but the stepped their game up big time.

New Balances are alright too.

Well, it depends on if you're talking track or cross country here.

And either way, it depends on your skill, the money you're willing to spend, and the dedication you're putting into running.

CROSS COUNTRY: If you're just running for fun, or if you aren't taking it too seriously, than you'll be fine with just one pair of basic running shoes. The serious runners will have a pair of basic running shoes as well as a pair of cross country spikes to wear in meets. They might even have a separate pair of spikes to wear in practice. Once again, this depends on many factors. If you're young, you might not even be ALLOWED to wear spikes yet.

TRACK: For track, its harder to get away with just one pair of shoes. You really do need a pair of spikes if you're in middle school or high school. They aren't THAT expensive, and although some serious runners might have a pair for meets and a pair for practice, you could be perfectly fine with just one pair of spikes.

spikes are not good for your feet. they just help for sprinting. soo dont train or spend time in your spikes. where running shoes until you sprint. then put on those spikes
